White Whale

Performance Midlength All-Rounder 6'6 – 7'4

Ahab didn't need the whale; he needed the chase. That's the part of the story surfing understands better than most; the hunt is the whole point, not the catch. Every surfer is chasing that elusive moment where you stop feeling separate from the water, where board and rider and ocean go quiet and become one. Most of us never stop hunting for it. That's what this board is named for, and that search is what it's built to serve.

The White Whale is a performance midlength, built to cover a wider range of surf than almost anything else in the lineup. It carries a medium rocker, flat enough to hold speed through the small stuff without turning into a plank once the waves have real push behind them. The outline carries plenty of foam under the chest, but the wide point remains slightly behind center. That combination gives it paddle power and early glide, while also keeping a pivot point far enough back to let the board wrap quickly when surfed off the tail. Once it's on rail, you can push hard and draw long arcing lines through open faces without holding back. The rails are shaped fairly thin despite the foam carried elsewhere, so they stay responsive underfoot, and talented surfers can bury them at incredibly high speeds.

Knee-high days with nothing to offer but trim speed, and bigger days where getting in early and paddling well matters most, are both in this board's territory. Size up on it and it's forgiving: beginners and intermediates get a board that glides, paddles well, and doesn't punish a late pop-up. Size down, and it becomes something else entirely for surfers who already know what they're doing: more paddle power than a shortboard, more mobility and maneuverability than a traditional midlength.

This board was never meant to be the white whale. It's the reminder of it, paddling out underneath you every time you go looking for that feeling, the one where you stop being separate from the ocean. Where the raw, indifferent power moving under the surface isn't something you're fighting or borrowing for a few seconds, but something you're briefly, fully a part of. That's what we're all really after, every time we paddle out: not the ride, not the wave, but that brief moment of being wholly, physically part of something older and bigger than us. The White Whale doesn't let you forget it.
